Two Del Signore Songs
I thought, before my sunlit twentieth year
Orchestra and Band
Chamber and Solo
When I first read Marie Howe’s work I was gripped by the immediacy of her writing. The language is sparse and direct, cataloging life’s tedium as well as anguish. The four poems that make up this song cycle come from her collections What the Living Do and The Good Thief, books written in the wake of her brother’s premature death. These poems explore what is left when one experiences enormous loss.
